Warm sunny days, clear water, and fresh fruit from locals attract many to the Kailua-Kona area. With a variety of beaches, hikes, and outdoor activities calling you to explore the Big Island, you are sure to want a car rental. You can find Budget at both the ITO airport in Hilo and the KOA airport in Kailua-Kona. Picking up a rental car at an airport makes for easy pickup, drop-off, and transportation throughout the island.

Rent a car and travel to an octopus or seahorse farm and learn more about these ocean creatures through hands-on interaction. Another fun sea life activity is packing up the snorkeling gear and driving to a bay on the Big Island. If you enjoy fishing, Hawaii Island is a prime spot to go deep sea fishing.

Locally grown coffee and fruits are must-eats when spending time in Kona. While you sip your morning coffee, take a coffee farm tour at one of many local plantations. Then finish off breakfast by heading to one of the island’s farmers markets. You can snack on fresh fruit and buy souvenirs to memorialize your trip.

Of course, a trip to one of the Hawaiian islands would not be complete without beach days and hiking. With your Kona car rental, you will have the freedom to drive to any of the beaches around the island. Consider one of our larger rental cars if you plan on loading up surfboards and beach toys. We are glad you get to enjoy our beautiful island with us.

Tourist Attractions on The Big Island

The Big Island of Hawaii offers plenty to do and see. Travel around the island with a rental car and experience the paradise of Hawaii. Here are a couple of our favorite local attractions.

Mauna Kea Summit

From sea floor to mountain peak, this summit is one of the world’s tallest mountains. Hike or drive around this mountain to get a spectacular view of the island's beauty. At the top of the mountain, you can find the Onizuka Center for International Astronomy where you can stargaze and learn about the galaxy that surrounds us.

Makalawena Beach

Makalawena Beach is a secluded beach where you can enjoy some peace away from the hustle and bustle. The water here is known for its pristine blue color, making it perfect for snorkeling. Due to the lava rocks surrounding it, this beach can be tricky to get to. Park your rental car at the trailhead and begin your 2-mile, 25-minute walk across the lava field. Once you see the glorious sand and the clear blue ocean, you’ll know every step was worth it.
