Budget Rent A Car today announced Michael Beaudoin of Billerica, Massachusetts, was awarded the $25,000 “Flip for Budget” video contest grand prize for his “Traveling on a Budget” musical video. Contestants were required to submit a two minute video demonstrating “how to live the budget-savvy lifestyle” while on vacation or a road trip. Flip Ultra Series video cameras were also awarded every weekday for the best video of the day during the contest.
“Budget customers are savvy consumers who like to save money on travel expenses, so it’s no surprise that our ‘Flip for Budget’ contest produced some outstanding videos that show the many different ways they travel on a budget,” said Becky Alseth, senior vice president of marketing at Avis Budget Group, parent company of Budget. “Michael Beaudoin’s video was noteworthy for featuring a catchy original soundtrack written and performed by Michael detailing all of the ways he likes to save money while traveling…including, of course, renting from Budget. We congratulate Michael on his $25,000 prize.”
Michael Beaudoin added, “Growing up, my family took many road trips from Maine to Florida, which is where I learned the many tips used throughout my video of traveling on a budget. My audio engineering background led me to the idea of writing a song for my video, which gave it more originality. I plan to buy a new electric guitar and put a down payment on a house with my winnings.”
The Flip for Budget contest required that video entries include car travel, such as a road trip, and feature a Budget Rent A Car reference and logo at least once while demonstrating creativity. “Travel on a Budget” and all submissions can be viewed at flipforbudget.com.
The video contest marks the fourth consecutive year that Budget has utilized new media to help connect travelers with the brand and one another. In the past, Budget has featured a travel blog, called “Up Your Budget,” which has featured an online forum to share road trip stories, free travel ideas and tips and money-saving deals in 2007; a partnership with “Weird U.S.” that focused on weird travel destinations throughout America in 2006; and a scavenger hunt theme that hid money throughout the United States in 2005.
“For 50 years, Budget has been a brand synonymous with innovation and creativity,” said Ms. Alseth. “Our customers enjoy having new and different ways to have additional fun with their travels by renting from Budget and sharing their experiences with the world.”
