BNA Airport Travel FAQs

The Nashville airport has one terminal and four concourses (A, B, C, and D). The terminal is composed of four levels, with ground transportation at level one, domestic arrivals at level two, and departures at level three.

BNA’s official name is Nashville International Airport. The airport was originally called Berry Field when it opened in 1937, and the name was changed in 1988. BNA, the airport code, is short for Berry Field Nashville.

Nashville International Airport is less than 10 miles from downtown Nashville. You can generally reach the downtown area from the airport in about 20 minutes. However, rush hour can raise travel times, so plan accordingly.

The average wait time to get through security at BNA is about 10-20 minutes. However, actual wait times vary, particularly during peak hours or holiday travel. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to plan ahead and visit BNA’s official website for current wait times.

Yes, you can spend the night at BNA. However, you’ll be restricted to the landside of the terminal after security checkpoints have closed for the night. Unfortunately, there is no dedicated sleeping or rest area within the airport. There are several nearby hotels as well if you want more comfortable accommodations.

No. You won’t encounter toll roads near the Nashville International Airport or anywhere within the state of Tennessee. However, if you intend to travel outside of Tennessee, consider adding Budget e-Toll services if you’ll be using toll roads.

You can expect about a 30-minute drive via I-65 S to get from the Nashville International Airport to Franklin, TN. However, since Franklin is one of the largest Nashville-area suburbs, traveling during busier commute times will likely increase travel time.

The Nashville airport sits 187 miles, or about a 3-hour drive, away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s considered a pretty easy route, with most of the driving done on I-40 E.
