How Tolls Work in Illinois

Most toll roads in Illinois are concentrated in the Chicagoland area. You’ll find plenty of ways to get out to the suburbs, into downtown Chicago, or simply from one iconic neighborhood to another. Illinois has its own toll system—known as I-Pass—and also participates in the E-ZPass system.

Chicago’s toll roads do not accept cash, debit, or credit payments, except for the Chicago Skyway.

FAQs about Toll Roads in Illinois

Yes, Illinois highway tolls are cashless, except for the Chicago Skyway.

Chicago toll amounts are based on your route, including which tollway you use and how far you travel. Traveling on the tollway for short distances can be inexpensive, but it can add up for lengthier trips. Fortunately, our unlimited e-toll services are available if you anticipate significant travel on the toll roads.
