How to Drive on Toll Roads in Georgia

Known for its Southern hospitality, delicious cuisine, and scenic views, the Peach State is well worth a visit. Before traveling, some tourists find themselves asking, “Does Georgia have toll roads?”

Yes, Georgia has toll roads, but you’ll only find them in the Atlanta metro area. While you may encounter Georgia toll roads on your journey, they’re no big deal with Budget on your side. In addition to our convenient rental locations in Georgia, we provide helpful resources like this informative guide on toll roads in Georgia.

Budget E-Toll Services

Budget e-Toll is the perfect companion for your trip to the Peach State. With Budget e-Toll, you’ll never need to worry about setting up other payment methods for Georgia toll roads.

Our standard e-Toll service, priced at just $6.95 per day plus the cost of tolls, is perfect for shorter trips. After the end of your trip, you’ll be billed separately for the tolls you used.

What if you prefer all-inclusive upfront pricing? Opt for Budget e-Toll Unlimited. For a flat daily fee of $10.99 to $25.99 (fee varies by location) up to a maximum charge of $54.95 to $129.95 per week, we’ll cover all your tolls.

How Tolls Work in Georgia

Toll roads in Georgia are optional. All Georgia toll roads are exclusively express lanes, allowing drivers to reduce travel times and avoid traffic congestion. Toll rates are based on a dynamic pricing system and adjusted based on real-time demand. These express lanes are operated 100% electronically, with accepted toll tags/transponders, including Peach Pass, E-Pass, LeeWay, E-ZPass, QuickPass, SunPass, and Budget e-Toll services. Since the toll roads are managed electronically, drivers do not need to stop to pay tolls.

Must-Know Tollways in Atlanta, Georgia

I-85 Express Lanes

  • Length: 15 miles (24.14 km)

  • Major Areas Served: Dekalb County, Gwinnett County, North Atlanta

A prominent Atlanta toll road, I-85 express lanes run alongside I-85, allowing motorists to avoid traffic congestion when traveling between Atlanta and its northeastern suburbs. You’ll find the current rates for the express lanes posted near express lane entrances, helping you make an informed decision before using the 16-mile stretch of express lanes. (Source)

I-75 South Metro Express Lanes

  • Length: 12 miles (19.31 km)

  • Major Cities Served: Stockbridge, McDonough

If you’re traveling in the southern Atlanta metropolitan area, the I-75 South Metro Express Lanes can help you avoid traffic congestion along I-75. These reversible lanes change directions to accommodate peak traffic flow, such as daily commutes to and from downtown Atlanta. The I-75 South Metro Express Lanes begin in McDonough and end in Stockbridge, providing motorists with an alternative travel option to southern Atlanta neighborhoods. (Source)

I-75 Northwest Corridor Express Lanes

  • Length: 29.7 miles (47.79 km)

  • Major Cities Served: Marietta, Woodstock, Kennesaw

Another major Atlanta toll road, the I-75 Northwest Corridor Express Lanes is an optional tollway running along I-75 and portions of I-575. Like the I-75 South Metro Express Lanes, these lanes are reversible to accommodate Atlanta commuters. During the morning rush, the I-75 Northwest Corridor Express Lanes operate southbound, connecting northwest Atlanta with downtown Atlanta. These lanes are then switched northbound in the evening to accommodate outbound traffic. (Source)

I-85 Express Lanes Extension

  • Length: 10 miles (16.09 km)

  • Major Cities Served: Suwanee, Ridgewood, Dacula

If you need to travel northeast of downtown Atlanta, the I-85 Express Lanes Extension starts at the end of the original I-85 Express Lanes. This extension provides faster, less congested travel further northeast. Despite being connected to the I-85 Express Lanes, there is a separate charge for using the extension tollway. Like all Georgia toll roads, dynamic pricing is based on current traffic conditions and demand. (Source)
