Yes, renting a car with a DUI on your record is possible. To rent from Budget, you need to have no DUIs (or similar convictions) in the past 48 months. If your DUI, DWI, or DWAI occurred more than 4 years ago, you can rent from Budget.
Does Budget Check Driving Records?
Corporate-owned Budget locations sometimes contact the DMV that issued a renter’s license. The DMV verifies the validity of the license and provides details about the driver’s record.
DUIs are only one factor that affect your eligibility to rent from Budget. We reserve the right to deny rental if a driver’s license verification reveals any of the following:
Invalid, suspended, expired, or revoked license
One or more convictions for reckless driving within 48 months
One DUI, DWI or DWAI conviction within 48 months
Failure to report an accident/leaving the scene of accident within 36 months
Possession of a stolen vehicle or use of a vehicle in a crime
Three or more convictions for moving violations within 24 months (excluding seatbelt violations)
Two or more accidents within 36 months
Other activities that suggest an unsatisfactory driving record
IIDs are breathalyzers installed within cars. A car with an IID will only let a driver start it if they breathe into the IID and prove they aren’t intoxicated. Some drivers with recent DUIs must drive cars with IIDs installed. Budget doesn’t have such cars available to rent.
Are There Any Rental Options for Drivers with DUIs?
Anyone who is ineligible to rent a vehicle because of a recent DUI or other driving record issue can have another person in their group book and drive the rental. Unfortunately, if they are traveling alone, they won’t be able to rent a car from Budget.
