Fuel-Efficient Green Machines

Rent Smarter With a SmartWay CertifiedSM Green Machine
Smartway logoAbout half the vehicles in Budget's fleet have a fuel efficiency rating of 28 miles per gallon or better (highway). One-fourth of our fleet (approximately 100,000 vehicles) is rated at 30 miles per gallon (highway) or better. Virtually 100 percent of all vehicles in Avis and Budget car classes A (subcompact), B (compact), C (intermediate), D (standard) and E (full-size) are U.S. EPA SmartWay Certified. Half of all car class F (small SUV) Avis/Budget vehicles are also SmartWay Certified. Rent Like a Genius® – and save money by filling up less often!

Hire a Hybrid
Budget now has over 2,000 gas/electric hybrid vehicles  – and we’ll continue to add more as manufacturers make them available to us.

Flex Fuel Cars
Budget's "flex fuel" cars help minimize environmental impact because they can operate using E-85 ethanol fuel, available at gas stations primarily in the Midwestern U.S. Our fleet includes the Chevy Suburban, Chevy Impala, and Chevy Monte Carlo, all designed to run on E-85 as well as regular unleaded gasoline.

little greener!

Well-Maintained Fleet
Since our car fleet averages less than six months on the road, and our vehicles undergo regular preventive maintenance and emission inspections, Budget vehicles are more energy efficient than older or poorly-maintained vehicles, and that keeps fuel costs low!

e-TollTM
Now, in participating major U.S. cities, avoid idling your car and help reduce air pollution in cash payment toll lines by using e-Toll in automated toll collection lanes. Paying for tolls electronically reduces hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide emissions by 40-63%, and reduces emissions of nitrogen oxides by 16%*. Available at select locations for an additional fee.

Where2® GPS Navigation
Audible, step-by-step directions enable renters to avoid getting lost, while real-time traffic alerts steer drivers around traffic jams. The less time you spend looking for your destination or idling in traffic, the lower your fuel consumption and emissions! Available at select locations for an additional fee.

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
Your "carbon footprint" equals the amount of carbon emissions you leave behind each day after driving, heating and cooling your home, flying on an airplane, etc. A "carbon offset" means counter-balancing the carbon emissions from your energy-using activities by reducing an equal amount of your carbon use somewhere else. Now you can make your car rental "carbon neutral".

Smart Car Washes
All new Budget car wash systems recycle and reuse at least 80% of wastewater. Budget also recycles used motor oil, oil filters, parts and brake cleaner fluids at our corporate
maintenance facilities.

Clean Diesel
All diesel engine shuttle buses operating at Budget airport locations use clean diesel technology. All Budget shuttles in Los Angeles and San Francisco are ultra-clean diesel, and they use a new fuel with more than 95% sulfur reduction.

Our Overall Corporate Initiative
Avis Budget Group, Inc., parent company of Budget, has launched an initiative to create a formal environmental management system (EMS) for certain major U.S. locations. This initiative will enable ABG to quantify the various environmental aspects of our business operations, and to manage these impacts, reducing our impact where and when necessary.
