As an Independent Operator, you'll be responsible for the growth and success of your own Budget location. There's no need to make an initial major investment, and no limit to how much revenue you can generate!

Unlike a franchise that requires a significant capital expenditure and ongoing royalties for using the company's trademark, an Independent Operator is authorized to rent Budget's vehicles, staff your location, and control costs.
Generally, start-up fees are between $5,000 and $10,000, and cover costs like grand-opening sales expenses, forms, incorporating your business, insurance, employees (most operators start with just a few employees), uniforms and computer equipment purchase.
Independent Operators are paid a commission percentage of rental revenue. Budget also will offer the dedicated assistance of our experienced support staff and helpful liaisons between Independent Operators and the company.
Best of all, Budget will provide you with an appropriate selection of late-model rental cars to meet your likely demand.
Successful Independent Operators come from all walks of life. While it's helpful to have skills or experience in operating a business, car rental, hotel, and/or travel-related business, this certainly isn't a requirement.
Key success criteria include:
- The ability to effectively communicate with customers and employees.
- A positive, goal-oriented personality and a willingness to do everything it takes to build the business on a community basis.
- An outgoing community focus that might include joining the local Chamber of Commerce, sponsoring local sports teams, and encouraging local businesses to refer customers to you.
- The ability to effectively serve customers, and build and maintain a strong, thriving business.
One of the best things about being an Independent Operator is the unlimited potential for growth. For example, an operator can realize lucrative earnings from a single successful location. However, if a larger operation becomes available, an existing operator might have the opportunity to move to that location.
